If you have difficulty getting in and out of your car, our driving advisers will help you to identify possible solutions. This may include transfer equipment, vehicle adaptations or a wheelchair accessible vehicle. We will help you as a driver and as a passenger to get into the vehicle as safely and comfortably as possible.
The application form should be filled in and submitted. We will then get in contact with you, once your application has been authorised by one of our driving assessors.
Car access appointment as a driver and/or passenger taking place at William Merritt Centres in Leeds, Sheffield or York: FREE or at your home, fees apply, please ask the Centre for more information.
If a rehabilitation case manager, solicitor or private clinician refers you for a car access appointment taking place at one of our centres: £400.
The appointment consists of a brief conversation where your difficulties in getting into and out of a car are summarised. We will also ask you how your condition affects accessing a vehicle and what you are looking to gain from this assessment. We will then come up with possible solutions suited to your personal needs. Whenever possible, you will then be able to try out some equipment yourself on the day.
You will receive advice and information on the equipment that you tried and a list of local retailers and potential funding sources in a report. We do not sell equipment. Please note that we are unable to provide a legal report.
