Location & directions

The William Merritt Centre has worked in partnership with Leeds City Council for a number of years in their delivery of the Shopmobility service at the Merrion Centre. The Council recognises the importance of the provision of fully accessible shopping and has been able to financially support Shopmobility in the Merrion Centre during this time.

Shopmobility services are widely recognised as an integral offer from the retail and hospitality sector for inclusive and accessible shopping, and many shopping centres and retail landlords provide scooter hire or mobility support as part of their core offer, rather than something which is funded directly through the Council. Unfortunately, due to the financial pressures the Council is facing it is no longer able to continue to fund the Shopmobility service in the Merrion Centre from the 1st April 2024.

The Council has been a long-term supporter of Shopmobility in the Merrion Centre and will continue to support and work with the William Merritt Centre to look at all opportunities outside of core budget funding.
