Driving lessons

Driving lessons are available at our centres in Leeds, York and Sheffield. Please see Contact page for the address and directions to each centre.

If you receive the higher rate mobility component of the Disability Living Allowance or the enhanced rate of the mobility component of the Personal Independence Payment (PIP) you may hold a driving licence from the age of 16.

Our approved driving instructors offer driving lessons for you in our own adapted vehicles. We also offer driving lessons for those returning to driving and those who need vehicle adaptations.  For initial driver assessments and the types of adaptation available, please see the Driver assessments page.

Manual and automatic vehicles with dual controls are available with and without vehicle adaptations.

Driving lessons are charged based on your location, please click here for more details or contact the Centre.

If you have not already done so, we recommend you notify DVLA of your health condition.  You should also update DVLA of any changes to you condition/health.You can book your own driving lessons using the Book button below.  The application form you will find when you book should be filled in and submitted. We will then get in contact with you to confirm your chosen date, once your application has been authorised by an occupational therapist.  We will also need to check your driving licence before your first lesson to see if there are any endorsements that might prevent you from driving.

  • List of your current medication.
  • Your driving licence.
  • If applicable, any glasses that you need/use for driving

We will ask you to read a number plate at a distance of 20m.  We will also talk through with you the answers you submitted on the online form including what mobility aids you use and how you transfer into and out of your car and what support you need, if any, to do that.
